1970 SD School of Mines alumnus Leslie Rose donates $6 million, the largest individual gift, to rename the Department of Mechanical Engineering and support future STEM leaders.

Leslie A. Rose, a 1970 graduate of South Dakota School of Mines, has made a historic $6 million donation, the largest individual gift in the university's nearly 140-year history. This contribution will support the Department of Mechanical Engineering and, pending approval from the South Dakota Board of Regents, the department will be renamed in his honor. The endowment aims to enhance educational resources and opportunities for future STEM leaders.
