Invasive quagga mussels increase in Idaho's Snake River, prompting management efforts and inspections.

Idaho's Snake River near Twin Falls has seen an increase in quagga mussels, an invasive species that threatens water quality, agriculture, and energy generation. First detected in September 2023, the Idaho State Department of Agriculture has implemented treatments and taken numerous samples. A $6.6 million budget for invasive species management was approved for fiscal year 2025. Mandatory inspections for watercraft continue to help prevent further spread.
