Maine CDC detects West Nile Virus in wild birds and an alpaca; two human cases reported.

The Maine CDC has detected West Nile Virus (WNV) in wild birds across Piscataquis, Sagadahoc, and Washington counties, with an alpaca in Lincoln County also testing positive. The agency reported 33 WNV cases this year, including two human cases. Additionally, Eastern Equine Encephalitis has been found in mosquito pools. Residents are advised to use insect repellent, wear protective clothing, and ensure window screens are intact to minimize risk.
