2,000 individuals forcibly evicted from Bandarmatha Reserve Forest for anti-encroachment operation.
In Assam's Goalpara district, approximately 2,000 individuals were forcibly evicted from the Bandarmatha Reserve Forest as part of an anti-encroachment operation mandated by the Gauhati High Court. This initiative, aimed at mitigating man-elephant conflicts, involved the removal of 450 families from 118 hectares of government land. The eviction was largely peaceful, marking the ninth operation in a year that cleared nearly 550 hectares of encroached forest.
