Universities UK urges UK government to raise stagnant tuition fees and review maintenance loans.

Universities UK (UUK) has urged the UK government to raise stagnant tuition fees, currently £9,250 per year, which have not increased since 2017. This lack of adjustment has contributed to financial pressures on universities, leading to budget deficits exacerbated by rising costs and the cost-of-living crisis. The University of Cumbria has requested an additional £8 million for a project due to these inflationary challenges. UUK president Professor Dame Sally Mapstone stressed the need for a review of student maintenance loans alongside any fee increases.
