Shanxi, China's top coal-producing region, generated over 813 million tonnes of coal in the first eight months of 2024, making up 26.6% of the nation's total output. To enhance energy security, the province plans to fully transition large-scale and high-risk mines to intelligent operations by 2025. Shanxi's coal production target for 2024 is about 1.3 billion tonnes, and it holds around 48.3 billion tonnes of China's total coal reserves, which were 207 billion tonnes at the end of 2022.
