On September 20, the Columbia-Richland Fire Department extinguished a significant house fire on Lake Murray's Ballentine Estates Road around 10:30 a.m. The owner escaped unharmed thanks to smoke alarms. In a separate incident on Crestland Avenue, the Columbia Fire Department responded to a fire at 3:40 a.m. in a single-story home, which was heavily engulfed. Firefighters controlled the blaze in 20 minutes, with no injuries reported. Investigations into both fires are ongoing.
