Maine PUC amends gas/electric utility rules to protect domestic violence victims from economic abuse.
The Maine Public Utilities Commission has amended rules for gas and electric utilities to enhance protections for domestic violence victims. The changes prevent utilities from reporting certain customer information to debt collectors and credit agencies, denying service, or requiring catch-up payments and deposits if a protection from abuse order is provided. Maine becomes the eighth state to implement such measures, which aim to support victims facing economic abuse.
