Leader of migrant smuggling gang, Muhammad Zada, sentenced to 20 years in absentia for conspiring to breach immigration laws.

Muhammad Zada, the leader of a migrant smuggling gang, was sentenced to 20 years in absentia by Newcastle Crown Court after fleeing prior to his trial. He and four associates were found guilty of conspiring to breach immigration laws by smuggling migrants into the UK using vans and refrigerated lorries. Charges for smuggling ranged from £5,000 to £10,000 per person. The National Crime Agency believes Zada smuggled hundreds more migrants before his arrest.
