WestJet has teamed up with FLYHT Aerospace Solutions and NOAA to enhance weather forecasting and predict severe weather in North America. The airline will equip five aircraft with sensors to gather vital atmospheric data, which will aid NOAA in addressing gaps in weather monitoring, particularly in the Pacific region. This initiative, funded by $500,000, aims to improve public safety and resource management, with installations starting in early 2025.
