46.6% of South Koreans on foreign government-supported jobs returned home, with low wages, career growth, and job insecurity being the main reasons.

A study by HRD Korea shows that 46.6% of South Koreans who took government-supported jobs abroad from 2018 to 2023 returned home. Among returnees, 30.4% found new jobs in Korea, while 16.2% are job hunting. Most cited voluntary termination as the reason for returning, often due to low wages, limited career growth, and job insecurity overseas. The U.S. and Japan had the highest return rates, with program participants returning at a significantly higher rate than others.
