Transperineal prostate biopsy significantly reduces infection risk compared to traditional transrectal method.

A clinical trial led by Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian has shown that the transperineal prostate biopsy method significantly reduces infection risk compared to the traditional transrectal biopsy. In the study, none of the 382 men who underwent the transperineal procedure experienced infections, while 1.6% of the 370 men who had the transrectal biopsy did. Researchers advocate for the transperineal method as the new standard for prostate cancer diagnosis.
