Thomas Kavanagh, a key figure in the Kinahan crime group, and associates Liam Byrne and Shaun Kent, pleaded guilty to a scheme to create a fake arms cache to reduce Kavanagh's prison sentence. They planned to stockpile weapons and mislead the National Crime Agency (NCA) but were thwarted after French authorities decrypted communications revealing their intentions. Kavanagh is already serving a 21-year sentence for drug trafficking. Sentencing for the new charges is set for October 21-22.
