Katherine McCandless, a former city secretary of Overton, was arrested for felony theft after allegedly using a city fuel card for personal expenses. She reportedly made 20 unauthorized charges totaling $1,192.64 for gasoline, including fuel for her recreational boat, between June 5 and August 19. The Rusk County Sheriff's Department set her bond at $10,000. Overton Police Chief Bryan Pool stated that theft of taxpayer dollars will not be tolerated.
