In January 2018, the remains of 65-year-old Steven Allen Yantz from Vermont were discovered in Tennessee, atop a cliff in a makeshift shelter. His family had lost contact with him years earlier, and no foul play was suspected. In 2023, a bone sample was analyzed using investigative genetic genealogy, leading to his identification. The Davidson County Medical Examiner and MTSU Anthropology Department assisted in the investigation.
