New Zealand's government has formed a Ministerial Advisory Group (MAG) to address rising retail crime, appointing four members, including executives from Retail NZ and Foodstuffs. Led by Sunny Kaushal, the group aims to propose legislation to reduce violent crime and serious repeat youth offenses, targeting a 15% reduction by 2029. Retail crime has surged by 86% over five years, with sexual assault incidents increasing by 72%.
