The European Union has warned that severe flooding in Central Europe and wildfires in Portugal signal a "climate breakdown" becoming the norm. EU Crisis Management Commissioner Janez Lenarcic highlighted Europe’s vulnerability as the fastest-warming continent, with disaster costs rising from €8 billion annually in the 1980s to over €50 billion recently. He stressed the urgency for unified action to support the EU's Green Deal aimed at achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
