Zimbabwe seeks UNSC seat for 2027-2028 with AU and SADC support, aiming for its third term.

Zimbabwe is seeking a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) seat for the 2027-2028 term, with strong backing from the African Union (AU) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC). All 16 SADC nations have pledged to support Zimbabwe's candidacy, which was endorsed at the AU's recent summit. If successful, this would be Zimbabwe's third term on the UNSC, following previous tenures in 1983-1984 and 1991-1992.
