U.S. Forest Service enacts burning ban in Dolly Sods Wilderness due to drought and fire risks.
The U.S. Forest Service has enacted a burning ban in Dolly Sods Wilderness Area, Monongahela National Forest, due to severe drought and fire risks. Campfires and other recreational fires are prohibited to ensure public safety, particularly given the area's unexploded ordnance from WWII. While this restriction currently applies only to Dolly Sods, officials are monitoring conditions and may extend the ban if necessary. The ban remains effective until substantial rainfall occurs.
