South Africa's Deputy Health Minister, Dr. Joe Phaahla, will announce strategies to combat non-communicable diseases (NCDs), particularly diabetes, which is a leading cause of death in the country. In 2020, diabetes accounted for 6.6% of deaths. The government plans to collaborate internationally on preventive measures and public health campaigns promoting healthy lifestyles, alongside free treatment at primary healthcare facilities.
