Jasper town council considers provincial funding for $1.25M property tax revenue loss after wildfire.

The Jasper town council in Alberta is considering requesting provincial funding to address a $1.25 million annual loss in property tax revenue following a July wildfire that destroyed a third of the town's buildings. Proposed relief measures include a one-month tax break for all property owners during evacuation and nullifying 2024 tax bills for those whose properties were destroyed. This could result in a $1.9 million revenue loss, about 17% of the town's budget.
