2022-23 Gujarat's GDP share at 8.1% is a record high, surpassing Maharashtra's 150% national average per capita income.

A recent report from the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister reveals that Gujarat's share of India's GDP has grown significantly, from 5.8% in 1960-61 to 8.1% in 2022-23. While it remained stable until 2000-01, Gujarat's per capita income is now 160.7% of the national average, surpassing Maharashtra's 150%. Both states have shown strong economic performance, particularly in the western and southern regions of India.
