BC Ferries plans to invest in seven diesel-electric hybrid vessels, the largest in its history, to accommodate rising demand and replace aging vessels.

B.C. Ferries plans to enhance its fleet with seven diesel-electric hybrid vessels, marking its largest investment in history. The first five ships are set for delivery by 2029-2031, followed by two more around 2037. Each vessel will accommodate 2,100 passengers and 360 vehicles, featuring advanced energy-efficient systems. Initially powered by biofuel and renewable diesel, they aim for full battery-electric conversion once infrastructure allows. This initiative addresses rising demand and aging vessels.
