Peter Cherif, a French jihadist known as Abou Hamza, began trial in Paris for terrorism-related offenses, including the 2011 kidnapping of three French aid workers in Yemen. Cherif, 42, has known ties to the Kouachi brothers, who carried out the 2015 Charlie Hebdo attack. Although not formally charged in that case, his potential involvement is central to the trial. If convicted, he faces life imprisonment. Cherif denies knowledge of the attack plans.
