2024-2025 WHO plan aims to eradicate variant poliovirus in Central/West Africa by December 2025.

The World Health Organization has introduced a cross-border plan for 2024/2025 to eradicate variant poliovirus transmission in Central and West Africa, particularly in the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin regions. Despite being declared free of indigenous wild poliovirus in 2020, these areas now face a resurgence of type 2 variant poliovirus. The initiative aims to halt all polio transmission by December 2025, supported by a newly established task team based in N'Djamena.
