John Dempre, a 48-year-old former East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's deputy, has been arrested and charged with cruelty to a juvenile after a boy with head injuries was taken to a hospital in Prairieville, Louisiana. The incident prompted an investigation by the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office. Dempre, who was previously suspended in 2005 for evidence mishandling, currently has no bond set in this case.
