Daniel Quizon, a 20-year-old from the Philippines, earned his Grandmaster title during the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Budapest by defeating Georgian GM Igor Efimov. This victory helped the Philippine team achieve a 4-0 win against Monaco, placing them 13th among 197 teams with 6 match points. The women's team also won 4-0 against El Salvador, tying with 30 nations for the same rank. Quizon’s performance secured a matchup against Slovenia in the next round.
