Queensland, Australia, extends subsidized 50-cent public transit fares, both major parties support.

Queensland, Australia, will retain its 50-cent public transport fares for at least four years, with both major political parties in support. Launched a month ago, the initiative has saved commuters A$37 million and boosted public transport usage significantly. The government estimates the scheme will result in A$300 million annually in lost revenue. Both Premier Steven Miles and Opposition leader David Crisafulli have committed to maintaining the program if elected.
