Himachal Pradesh legally authorizes property seizure for illegal liquor trade offenders.
Himachal Pradesh has become the first Indian state to legally permit property seizure from individuals involved in the illegal liquor trade. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced amendments to the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act 2011, which now extend penalties to relatives and associates of offenders. The law aims to deter illicit activities, following the 2022 Hooch Tragedy, and includes the establishment of an excise police force for better enforcement.
