Walgreens Boots Alliance settles fraud allegations for $106.8m over unfilled prescriptions, admitting no liability.

Walgreens Boots Alliance will pay $106.8 million to settle allegations of fraudulent billing for unfilled prescriptions from 2009 to 2020. The Justice Department claimed Walgreens submitted false payment claims to Medicare and Medicaid while reselling the prescriptions. Although the company did not admit liability, it previously refunded $66.3 million related to these claims. The settlement addresses three whistleblower lawsuits and acknowledges Walgreens’ efforts to improve its pharmacy management system.
