South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has tasked the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) with investigating serious maladministration allegations at Transnet, focusing on the reinstatement of former CEO Siyabonga Gama in 2011 and related legal costs. The SIU will also examine contracts linked to cable theft prevention and similar issues in Gauteng's human settlements and two local municipalities. The unit aims to recover financial losses for the state.
