The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will redesignate the 20-mile U.S. 70 Goldsboro bypass as Interstate 42 (I-42) this fall, following federal approval. The project includes replacing 82 signs and updating 108 with overlays. Installation starts September 16 and may cause daytime lane closures. The initiative aims to upgrade U.S. 70 to interstate standards, enhancing travel and economic opportunities in Eastern Carolina.
