Canada invests $2.54B in Telesat Lightspeed broadband satellite constellation for remote area internet and job creation.

Canada is investing $2.14 billion in a loan to satellite operator Telesat, with Quebec contributing an additional $400 million, to develop the Telesat Lightspeed broadband satellite constellation. Described as Canada's largest space program, it aims to provide affordable, reliable internet to remote areas, including Indigenous communities. The initiative is expected to create 2,000 jobs nationally and 967 in Quebec, with the first satellites set to launch in 2026.
