22-year-old Indigenous actor D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai becomes first in 17 years to be nominated for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy for "Reservation Dogs."

D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, a 22-year-old actor from Toronto, has made history as the first Indigenous actor nominated for a Lead Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy in 17 years for his role in FX's "Reservation Dogs." The show, created by Taika Waititi and Sterlin Harjo, features an all-Indigenous writing and directing team. Woon-A-Tai hopes his nomination will inspire Indigenous actors and provide representation, despite acknowledging that an Emmy won't solve systemic issues within their communities.
