A river otter attacked a child at Bremerton Marina in Kitsap County, Washington, on September 12, dragging the child underwater. The mother rescued the child but was also attacked. The child suffered minor injuries and received hospital treatment. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, in collaboration with USDA Wildlife Services, euthanized several otters for rabies testing. River otter encounters with humans are rare but have increased recently.
