A 40-year-old man drowned in the Erie Canal in Newark, New York, on Wednesday while attempting to swim across. Witnesses saw him go underwater around 3:45 p.m. and fail to resurface. Emergency responders, including the Newark Fire Department, conducted a search and located his body. Authorities do not suspect foul play. This incident marks the second drowning in the canal in recent months, following the death of a 17-year-old boy in June.
