Unity Technologies abandons Runtime Fee, reverts to subscription model and adjusts pricing.

Unity Technologies has scrapped its controversial Runtime Fee, which charged developers based on game installations, due to significant backlash. CEO Matthew Bromberg announced a return to a seat-based subscription model, with Unity Personal remaining free and its revenue ceiling increased to $200,000. Unity Pro will see an 8% price increase, while Enterprise will face a 25% rise, effective January 1, 2025. This shift aims to rebuild trust with developers and support game development investments.
