William Bennington, a 53-year-old from Portland, was sentenced to 51 months in federal prison for wire fraud after defrauding investors of over $2 million. Between 2012 and 2022, he falsely claimed to be a successful foreign exchange trader, promising high returns while using the funds for personal expenses. Bennington pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud, with the case investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Trisotto.
