Winnipeg postpones $1/month 911 fee, reducing 2022 revenue shortfall and projected deficit.

Winnipeg has postponed a new $1 monthly 911 fee intended to fund next-generation 911 technology, resulting in a $3.7 million revenue shortfall for 2022. Consequently, the city’s projected deficit has improved to $19.2 million from $39.3 million. Measures to address the deficit include reducing discretionary spending, pausing non-essential hiring, and deferring debt. The city still plans to implement the new 911 technology by 2026.
