Kara Welsh, a 21-year-old gymnast at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, was fatally shot eight times on August 30 in her boyfriend Chad Richards' apartment. Richards, 23, has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide, claiming self-defense during a struggle over a gun. He alleges Welsh grabbed the weapon during an argument. Richards is also charged with endangering safety and disorderly conduct, with a bond set at $1 million.
