Sitaram Yechury, the 72-year-old General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), is critically ill with an acute respiratory tract infection and is receiving respiratory support in the ICU at AIIMS Delhi. He was admitted on August 19 for a pneumonia-like chest infection. A team of doctors is closely monitoring his condition. Yechury has been a significant figure in Indian politics, notably in coalition-building efforts.
