The French farm ministry has identified five probable cases of food-borne botulism in central France linked to contaminated wild garlic pesto sauce sold at local market fairs. The government has issued an immediate recall of the product, urging consumers to seek medical advice if symptoms develop. Botulism, caused by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, can be fatal without prompt treatment. Samples of the sauce are being analyzed by Institut Pasteur.
