85% of Hong Kong wildlife fecal samples contain microplastics, according to a Greenpeace study.

A Greenpeace study found microplastics in 85% of fecal samples from wildlife in Hong Kong, indicating that animals consume plastics even in rural areas. Conducted with local and Taiwanese universities, the research analyzed 100 samples from various species, identifying polyethylene and polypropylene as the most common types. This raises concerns about ecological and human health impacts as Hong Kong generates over 2,300 tonnes of plastic waste daily, with comprehensive plastic bans still lacking.
