Dr. Mark Ghaly, California's Secretary of Health and Human Services, will resign at the end of September. Governor Gavin Newsom commended his pandemic leadership, which he credited with saving many lives. Ghaly's initiatives included revamping the public insurance program CalAIM and launching CalRx for state-distributed medications. He will be succeeded by Kim Johnson, currently the director of the Department of Social Services, starting October 1.
