Bangladesh bans polythene and polypropylene bags from Oct 1, promoting jute and cloth alternatives.

Starting October 1, super shops in Bangladesh will ban the use of polythene and polypropylene bags, as announced by Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan. Jute and cloth bags will be offered as alternatives. To ensure supply, the Ministry of Textiles and Jute will hold meetings with store operators, and a fair for eco-friendly bag manufacturers will occur by September 30. A nationwide media campaign will begin on September 15 to promote the initiative.
