WCMRC unveiled a $17M ocean spill response facility in Nanaimo, reducing response times for the Trans Mountain Expansion Project.

The Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC) unveiled its new ocean spill response facility in Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, enhancing oil spill management capabilities. The $17 million facility can handle 20,000 tonnes of oil within 10 days and reduces response times from 72 hours to six, meeting requirements for the Trans Mountain Expansion Project. It also supports a coastal response program to protect sensitive areas. Local residents toured the facility, which emphasizes that polluters bear cleanup costs.
