China has imported its first mutton from Africa, with a 1,000 kg shipment from Madagascar cleared in Hunan Province. This marks a significant step in China-Africa meat trade, as Madagascan mutton offers quality and price advantages. The mutton will be sold in local restaurants and supermarkets. Following a trade agreement signed last year, China aims to import 20,000 tonnes of mutton annually from Madagascar within three to five years.
