In September 2024, Sri Lanka Customs announced a historic revenue of one trillion rupees (about $3.3 billion) for the first eight months, surpassing the previous high of 975 billion rupees in 2023. Director General Sarath Nonis expressed optimism about meeting the IMF's 2024 target of 1.534 trillion rupees (approximately $5 billion). This achievement is attributed to improved operational methods and support from government officials in combating fraud and smuggling.
