India surpasses 50% tap water coverage in rural households under the Har Ghar Jal scheme.

India's government reports that all states and Union territories have surpassed 50% tap water coverage in rural households under the Har Ghar Jal scheme, which aims for universal access by year-end. Currently, 11 states and UTs have achieved 100% coverage. West Bengal has the lowest at 52.30%. The initiative, launched in 2019, seeks to provide 55 liters of water per person daily by 2024 and includes climate-resilient structures in flood-prone areas.
