In the first eight months of 2024, Cambodia recorded 50 lightning-related deaths, a 22% decrease from 64 in the same period of 2023. Additionally, 43 people were injured by lightning. Storms also caused four deaths, 32 injuries, and the collapse of 482 houses. The National Committee for Disaster Management urges rural residents to seek shelter during storms. Cambodia has initiated a national disaster risk reduction plan for 2024-2028 to mitigate impacts on lives and infrastructure.
